We didn't finish our basement following the flood last year. We weren't sure what was going to happen. We knew we could survive life for a while using just the upstairs. We could use the laundry in the basement and store other things down there. So, we waited.
Well, now we are thinking it would be nice to move, and Dustin discovered that it's been difficult to sell a house, listing it as a 2 bedroom house, because the other 2 bedrooms were in the basement, so, currently, non-existent.
After spending several weekends in the basement, and many days after a full day of work, Dustin now has the basement all set and ready for sheetrock. I should have a 'before' picture to show just how basic and bare it was, but he had to replace all walls, all studs, basically, all the wood down there. Previously, all of the outside walls were just bare concrete, but he wanted to be able to wire for outlets, etc, in the outer walls, and make it warmer, so that work to put studs on the outer concrete walls had to also be done.
It will be nice for this job to get completed, even if we move forward with selling the house, because eventually, someday SOMEHOW, I want to be able to go in my basement without having to wear shoes!!! Our last house had a cellar/creepy crawlspace, and this house always seemed like it was somewhat under construction before the flood....up until Dustin redid the basement juuuust before the flood last year. I suppose I got to enjoy it for about a week or two, so I shouldn't complain!
Anyhow, pictures of the current stage of our basement!
Dane thinks that 'working in the basement' is just a part of life, as he asked someone else recently, 'Are you working on YOUR basement this weekend?'
