we're good!!!

As quoted by the nurse we work with at the Children's Hospital,
'no changes to GCSF. Platelets were totally normal.'

GCSF is the term they use for his daily shot we give each night before bed. It's also called neupogen or filgrastim. No changes is very good news as he is getting a very small dose and we'd like to keep it that way!
Last month, his platelet count was kind of high so she had asked if he'd been experiencing more-than-normal bruising, or any bleeding, in his gums or nose. He hasn't, but this is somewhat alarming as we need to watch for it.
However, if they do not draw enough blood, or it clumps or clots, the reading can be inaccurate and therefore, the platelets count can be skewed. This must be exactly what happened last month because he had no abnormal signs or symptoms, his other numbers were in the range they should be, and this month, everything is right on. :)
Sometimes they hurry up and just draw barely enough to get it over with for Brody, and I think that might be what happened last month, also causing clumping or clotting. I can only imagine what it's like to be poking a toddler, have him screaming and writhing to get free, and need to continue your job!
At any rate, we are glad for a good reading this month and getting to wait a whole nother month before going back!
Yahoo, Brody!!! As Dustin said, 'way to make those neutrophils!' :)

Brody's blood

It's been over a month since Brody's last blood draw, so I took him in Monday evening for his latest check.
He must have known where we were going, because as I was getting ready to go and attempting to get him ready, he snuck my phone off the table and held it under a stream of water in Marby's drinking fountain!!!
Luckily, Dustin caught him immediately and I pulled apart my phone completely to lay out and dry while we were at the hospital. Thankfully, it was just the screen and outer cover that got most of the water treatment. Little stinker. Naughty, naughty.

This time, the first one I've experienced, two gentlemen attempted to draw Brody's blood. He must have also thought it was odd that there weren't 4 or 5 ladies all up in his business, as he just gave them the stone-face treatment.....until they went for the poke. He handled everything very well up until the poke, and of course I don't blame him, but that part hurts!!!
I gave him a couple of M&M's, and that helped just a little bit. But they weren't able to get into his vein so the girl who had shown up during the first attempt gave it a go. She knows Brody by name and got in and finished up the job quickly. He of course wasn't happy about that poke, either, but cheered up very quickly once they let go of his arm! He then always gets the band they tied around his arm, some stickers, and any other random safe medical equipment he reaches to grab!
Nearly every time these days, he leaves the place in a good mood and now makes sure to tell 'buh-bye' to everybody with a nice floppy-wristed wave on our way out, while his other fist is filled with goodies!

We are now waiting to hear a final answer on his results from his doctors in Minneapolis. The nurse in Minot called me with good numbers right away Tuesday morning. --->1320<--, which might not mean much to anybody but us, but that's a great number for his neutrophil reading! Last month, his platelet count was a little off, so I'm waiting to hear how that looks this month. I'll make sure to update on here once I get some news!

Have a Wacky Wednesday!!!
