Who doesn't love being a mom?
I mean, on your first day off of a four-day weekend, why WOULDN'T you want to clean up puke before 7:30 in the morning? Am I right???
Today is Good Friday. I have the day off from work, the boys don't have daycare, but with Dustin's new job, he is in the middle of his 8 days of working. So he left at 5:30 this morning. And will be gone each of the next four days all day while we figure out what to do with our time.
Normally, on a work day, I would get up around 6:30, get myself mostly ready, then wake the boys closer to 7:00 to get ready, then leave for daycare. Something in their brains must automatically tell them each and every day that we don't need to get up at that time, triggering them to wake up a minimum of a half hour ahead of time! Regardless of a holiday, extra-random day off or weekend day, this is regularly what happens. Without fail. EVER.
Dane came in to my room before 6:30 this morning to use the bathroom, and I told him he needed to lay down with me for a while to get some more rest. He agreed, and that lasted about 20-30 minutes. Dane then told me his stomach hurt and he needed to sit on the toilet for a while. He got out Dustin's truck parts magazine and sat in the bathroom for a while, which apparently helped a little bit. He came to lay back down again after that, but shortly after, we heard Brody, saying he needed to use the bathroom. So he came in to my bedroom and used the bathroom also. Finally, FINALLY we all lay down to what I think is an agreement to try to rest some more, with nobody begging for the TV to be turned on, needing a drink, needing breakfast, needing the bathroom.
Dane coughs.
Dane coughs again.
Dane pukes.....on my bed.....a lot.
Ugh...it's not even 7:30.
He was nice enough to contain it to one small area, and not freak out, spraying it everywhere, not on the floor, not on the pillows, not on the nightstand. So things could have been worse, I guess!
Brody ran to the kitchen and got a bucket for Dane. :) (He just had a puke episode himself last weekend...) Dane then spent a little time in the bathroom while I removed sheets, tried to keep Brody away, and listened for more coughing.
After getting the washing machine going, my next battle was an all-out screaming, crying, tantrum argument with Brody, because I would not allow him to assist me with puke clean-up. Yes, you read that right. He threw one of his pterodactyl-screaming, mucous-covered face, back-arching screaming fits because I told him he could not be around the puke. One of his best ever, I think.
By now, it's not even 8:00 am....I guess we are going to have to re-think our plans for the library, book store, and pharmacy this morning.
Right now, Dane is resting comfortably in the recliner, on his 2nd episode of Team UmiZoomi, having had some GatorAde, saying he feels better. He is acting like his old self already, but we will take things easy for a while, as the last thing I want is a public puking experience under my belt today.
Happy Good Friday to you, too!
I love being a mom!
And you know, stuff like this NEVER happens when Dad is home alone with the kids! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat do you give Brody as a treat for helping clean up around the house? It must be pretty darn good for him to want to help clean up puke. Goober.
